Undergraduate applications in Alberta
ApplyAlberta is a secure online system that allows you to apply to one or more of Alberta’s public colleges, universities, and technical institutes.
We’re excited to help you with your application!
What you’ll need to apply
- Your Alberta Student Number (What is an ASN?)
- If you have attended school in Alberta, you have an ASN. Find your ASN here
- If you have never attended school in Alberta, you will be able to create a new ASN within this application process.
- Names of all the high schools and post-secondary institutions you have attended
- All your high school courses and corresponding grades, if you are currently a student in Canada
- If you are a student from outside of Alberta, you’ll need:
- All courses completed (from Grade 10 to 12)
- Final grades for completed courses
- Current courses you’re still taking (if you’re in Grade 12)
- A credit card to pay your application fees (learn more)
What to expect
Here are the steps you’ll go through to complete your application:
1
Create your account
First, you will create an Alberta.ca account and provide your Alberta Student Number (or create one if you have never studied in Alberta before).
2
Fill in your profile
Now you have access to the ApplyAlberta portal. At this point, you will make sure that your profile is fully completed (missing profile information will delay your ability to apply).
ApplyAlberta is where you will manage your applications and view transcript requests that institutions have made on your behalf.
3
Complete your application
Almost there! Now you will ‘Start a New Application’ at the institution of your choice. You will be directed to the institution’s application portal where you will apply and pay any application fees.
Let’s get started with your application
Applying can be a bit difficult on a cell phone–we recommend using a computer for the best experience.
Create Alberta.ca accountAdditional information
Everyone using the ApplyAlberta application system requires an Alberta Student Number (ASN). The ASN is a unique number assigned to you if you have attended any of the following in Alberta:
- High School
- College
- Technical Institute/Polytechnic
- University
The system uses your ASN to authenticate your identity and to retrieve your transcripts.
- If you have attended school in Alberta–do not create a new ASN–you will already have an ASN and can find it here.
- Creating a duplicate ASN will delay your application
- If you do not have an ASN, you will create one as part of the ApplyAlberta application process
All application fees are paid directly to the institution you are applying to. Each institution has its own unique application fees and you can expect to pay multiple application fees if you are applying to multiple institutions.
If you require a refund, you will need to contact the institution to which you submitted your application to. You should also check the institution’s website to view their policy on refunds.
Transcripts are a record of your courses, grades and achievements. Institutions will use your course and grade information to determine eligibility to a program. If you’re still attending high school, institutions can use this information to grant early admission before final marks are available.
By using the ApplyAlberta application system, you are authorizing institution(s) to obtain transcripts on your behalf. ApplyAlberta coordinates the request and delivery of your Alberta high school transcripts from Alberta Education directly to the institution you’re applying to.
ApplyAlberta also coordinates the transfer of Alberta post-secondary transcripts between post-secondary institutions.
Transcript requests are always free when using ApplyAlberta.
There are some transcripts that you will need to obtain yourself. Once you submit your completed application, the institution will let you know which transcripts they are able to obtain on your behalf and if there are any transcripts that you will be responsible for ordering yourself.
Examples of transcripts that will not be available through ApplyAlberta include:
- Transcripts from Alberta post-secondary institutions that are not using the ApplyAlberta application system
- Transcripts for secondary or post-secondary studies outside of Alberta
